Morehead of Moore wins multiple collegiate awards

Madison Rachel Morehead of Moore, SC, is the recipient of multiple achievement awards from Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC).

Morehead, a sophomore, received the awards during a ceremony held on SMC's campus April 20 where she was selected by college faculty to receive the Achievement Award in Service for significant participation in service activities sponsored by the college.

She received the Olin D. Johnston Good Citizenship Award, named for the late Senator Olin D. Johnston and presented by the Honorable Liz J. Patterson, for substantial contributions to SMC.

Morehead received a third-place award for art contributed to the Blue Granite Review, the college's annual literary magazine.

She received the Pioneer Peer of the Year Award for exemplifying strong qualities of leadership, character and outstanding commitment to the Pioneer Peer program and to Spartanburg Methodist College as a whole. Pioneer Peers serve as student mentors and assist with college activities and programs.

Morehead was also chosen by her classmates to serve as the student speaker during the college's May 6 Commencement Exercises, where she received an Associate Degree in Arts.
