Dr. Curt Laird, SMC Provost and Executive Vice President, is pleased to announce the 289 students included on the Dean's List for grades earned during the fall 2025 academic semester at Spartanburg Methodist College. Dean's List students have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Given to a graduating student on the basis of citizenship, character, scholarship, and athletic ability.

This award is given annually in honor of the first president of KSA, Rev. Thomas (Tommy) R. Bailey, to the member of Kappa Sigma Alpha who has exhibited outstanding service to humanity through their hours of community service through their dedication and accomplishment of the projects sponsored by KSA. The advisors select this student through careful reviewing of records of participation, hours of service and overall spirit as exhibited in the organization.

Given in memory of the late Senator Olin D. Johnston to the student regarded as having rendered the greatest contribution to SMC.

The SGA Member of the Year Award is given to the SGA member or officer that showed the greatest commitment to SGA and great abilities of leadership and service to the student body throughout the academic year. The SGA Senate submits student nominations which are tallied to select a winner.

This award is given annually to the student who makes the greatest contribution to the Trailblazer, SMC's student newspaper.

This award will be given to a Pioneer Ambassador who has shown excellent leadership and responsibility.

This award is given to a new CA who, through their leadership position, supported the mission of Community Life by promoting educational communities and engaging a diverse student body in learning, leadership, and personal development by providing a comfortable and safe living environment that is conducive to academic success. The criterion by which the recipient is chosen includes outstanding service to Community Life and to SMC through programming efforts, work ethic, and campus visibility. Recipients must display dependability, compassion, and dedication to the SMC community. The recipients are chosen by the Community Life Staff.

This award is given annually for academic achievement in physics courses at SMC. Winners must have completed at least two semesters of physics classes or be currently enrolled in their second physics course. Winners are chosen from those with the highest grades in their physics coursework. Consideration is given to the following: acting as a tutor for the physics courses and providing in-class leadership.

These awards are given to the student(s) who produce the best poetry for the literary magazine each year. The literary magazine advisor selects a faculty/staff member or a local writer to rate the pieces that are selected for inclusion in the magazine.

On Saturday, May 3, Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) held its annual Commencement ceremony, recognizing graduates from the fall of 2024 and spring of 2025, at Spartanburg High School. Senior Victoria Farr, of Boiling Springs, SC, was selected as the student speaker and shared her story of perseverance in encouraging her classmates to go out and achieve great things.

On Saturday, May 4, Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) celebrated graduates from the fall of 2023 and spring of 2024 during its 2024 commencement ceremony held at Spartanburg High School. U.S. Army Major Jeremy Boeh served as the commencement speaker and Hali Gardner, of Boiling Springs, SC, was selected as the student speaker.

Spartanburg Methodist College recently inducted 20 students into the Sigma Kappa Delta English Honor Society. Students receiving this honor achieved an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher with a B average in a minimum of one course in English or literature.

Spartanburg Methodist College is pleased to recognize the 2024 winners for the Viva Academia poster presentations. Students presented research projects they've been working on throughout the year. There was a wide range of topics covered.

Spartanburg Methodist College recently inducted 35 students into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Students receiving this honor achieved an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher with a minimum of 16 academic hours. Inductees must also be of good character and possess recognized good qualities of citizenship.

The Achievement Award in Leadership is given annually to graduating student or students who have made significant contributions to the SMC community in the area of leadership.

Eight SMC students were recently elected to represent the student body as senators on the Student Government Association for the 2023 - 2024 academic year. The Student Government Association (SGA) is the main representative body for students at Spartanburg Methodist College. Students elected as senators serve a one-year term.

Four SMC students were elected to represent the student body as president, vice president, chief financial officer, and chief of operations on the Student Government Association Executive Team for the 2023-2024 academic year. The Student Government Association (SGA) is the main representative body for students at Spartanburg Methodist College. Students elected to an office serve a one-year term.

The Outstanding Drama Student Award is given to the student who has contributed the most to the drama program for four continuous semesters. Classes taken, grades made in these classes, outside of class participation and leadership in dramatic activities on and off campus, and attitude are all considered.

This award is given to student(s) who have completed a chemistry sequence or are in the second semester of a chemistry sequence. The student must also have completed or are in the second semester of either two semesters of biology or two semesters of physics.
